Gonçalo Lourenco
Gonçalo Lourenço is an accomplished nursing professional with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Coimbra. He has further specialized by completing Surgical First Assistant/ Advanced Scrub Practitioner course in London and Manchester. With over a decade of experience in the operating room, Gonçalo has developed a deep expertise in orthopaedics and trauma, particularly in complex, major surgeries. He has had the privilege of collaborating with some of the world’s leading surgeons, which has significantly enriched his knowledge and proficiency in the field.
Currently, Gonçalo serves as the first assistant to our Orthopaedic subspecialised Consultants, a group of distinguished upper limb, lower limb and spine surgeons. In this role, he provides essential support throughout all phases of the surgical process, including pre-operative preparation, intra-operative assistance, and post-operative care, ensuring the highest standards of patient care. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Gonçalo has also taken on managerial responsibilities,overseeing the daily operations of the operating room and leading a team of dedicated professionals demonstrating his leadership and operational expertise.
Beyond his role in orthopaedics and trauma, Gonçalo has also garnered extensive experience across a range of other surgical specialties, including general surgery, gynaecology (with a focus on laparoscopic procedures), and cardiovascular surgery. This diverse experience has allowed him to develop a versatile skill set, making him adept at navigating various surgical environments.
