Professor Ali Noorani is the founder of OS Clinic. Renowned globally, he is not just a surgeon but a pioneer in the field. His unparalleled expertise has made him a trusted authority among elite athletes, including Premier League footballers, professional rugby players, and numerous professional cyclists, boxers, and mixed martial artists, including UFC competitors. His dedication to treating professional bodybuilders and powerlifters further underscores his versatile expertise.

He is known worldwide for his expertise in repairing biceps and pectoralis major tears, as well as performing complex arthroscopic shoulder surgery in athletes.

His surgical expertise has been sought after by numerous elite athletes, including bodybuilders and powerlifters such as Eddie Hall, World’s Strongest Man, as well as England cricketers Mark Wood and Jofra Archer.

Operating primarily out of London, Professor Noorani also maintains practices in the Cayman Islands, Shanghai and Pakistan. Graduating from Imperial College School of Medicine (London) in 2000, Professor Noorani completed his orthopaedic and trauma training on the prestigious Royal London Hospital rotation, alongside 16 months of specialized training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, with the Shoulder and Elbow Service and the Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit. He become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Trauma & Orth) in 2009. He further honed his skills with specialist fellowship training in shoulder, elbow, and upper limb surgery at the globally renowned Upper Limb Fellowship Programme at The Royal Liverpool Hospital.

He earned the Annual British Shoulder and Elbow Society Fellowship in 2010 and the British Orthopaedic Association Fellowship in 2011. These esteemed fellowships allowed him to gain invaluable insights into upper limb and trauma surgery at leading institutions in the USA, including Mass General (Harvard University), the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Columbia University, the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. He was also awarded an AO trauma fellowship in Salzburg.

His NHS base is at Europe’s largest level 1 trauma centre at The Royal London Hospital. As part of Barts Health NHS Trust, Professor Noorani provides a tertiary referral service for complex upper limb patients.

As Medical Director, Founder, and Chairman of OS Clinic, he leads a team of over thirty internationally acclaimed orthopaedic and maxillofacial specialists, treating adult and paediatric patients from around the globe. He also heads the upper limb division at the Sports Injury Clinic at OS Clinic and serves at several prestigious hospitals, including Circle London Independent Hospital, Nuffield at Barts, BUPA Cromwell Hospital, St John & St Elizabeth Hospital, The London Clinic, and Harley Street Specialist Hospital.

As a visiting Professor of Orthopaedics and Medical Education at the Institute of Medicine, University of Greater Manchester, Professor Noorani plays a crucial role in establishing a new medical college.

He is renowned for his multidisciplinary approach to upper limb treatment, emphasizing a holistic, patient-centric strategy. Only around 20% of his patients require surgery, thanks to his collaboration with physiotherapists and his meticulous approach to patient rehabilitation. When surgery is necessary, he utilizes minimally invasive and joint preservation techniques to ensure rapid recovery.

Professor Noorani firmly believes that accurate diagnosis is essential, but clear communication is equally important. Patients and therapists alike value the reassurance and detailed explanations he provides. An expert in setting up multidisciplinary teams and innovative one-stop clinics, he has streamlined the patient journey in upper limb services through LEAN methodology. He has also been at the forefront of telemedicine, developing techniques now used globally, allowing seamless cross-border diagnoses and consultations.

As the founding member of the Royal London Orthopaedic and Trauma Society and the Barts Orthopaedic Fund, and a board member of the European Society for Shoulder and Elbow Rehabilitation (EUSSER), Professor Noorani’s influence extends beyond clinical practice. He is an active member of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society, the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Medical Association, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. His contributions to education and clinical supervision are widely recognized, with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and significant research contributions, including previous roles as a principal investigator on multicentre randomised controlled trials. He is currently acting as principal investigator for a level 3 pharmaceutical stem cell drug trial, being prepared for submission to the FDA.

Educational & Clinical Supervisor

Professor Ali Noorani is an enthusiastic teacher and has completed the TAiP and Teach the Teachers courses.

In his present position as an Orthopaedic and Trauma Consultant in a teaching hospital, he am responsible for the training of the specialist registrars.

He is on the Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP), for the NE Thames Training programme.

He is on the interview panel for selection of surgeons into the orthopaedic training programme.

Clinical Tutor

Professor Ali Noorani is also responsible for supervising and teaching 4th and 5th year medical students from the Barts and the London Medical School. This includes a formal lecture once a week. He also teaches nurses and allied health professionals core orthopaedic knowledge, and safe and efficient practices.

Simulation Centre

As part of the North East Thames training programme he is introducing simulation into the teaching curriculum. This includes training on the Non-Technical Skills Simulation in Orthopaedics.
